Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Officer, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:-

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage logistics operations including all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of WFP cargoes;
Ensure that all staff are adequately trained, cross trained and identify any additional training needs to achieve high working standards;
Co-ordinate and provide logistics support to ongoing air, land, sea or rail operations in the area;
Establish reports based on logistics movements and distribute them according to requirements;
Identify, mobilise resources, implement and report on special logistics operations;
Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained;
Ensure effective commodity management and quality control;
Ensure adequate logistics preparedness through contingency planning and continuous logistics preparedness reviews;
Co-ordinate logistics operations with other organisations in the area;
Support logistics staff in other offices;
Supervise staff as required;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Core Competencies:
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in business administration, engineering, computer science, statistics or economics (preferably transport economics) or equivalent professional/logistics experience.
Work Experience:
At least three years` post-graduate, progressively responsible, practical commercial/professional experience in one or more of the transportation and ancillary sectors (port operations, shipping, clearing and forwarding, air operations, large scale road/rail transport and distribution management).
Languages:
Excellent written and oral English and good spoken Kiswahili.
Other Desirable Skills:
Advanced degree. Knowledge of a second official UN language. Ability to plan and organise work, to be resourceful and use initiative. Should have mature judgement and be able to supervise staff. Should have good negotiating skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with WFP clearing and forwarding agents and transporters. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment and to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others. High degree of accuracy and competency required together with the ability to work systematically and to communicate complex matters both orally and in writing.
